
As an anthropology professor I emphasized the need to try to understand Others who had culturally diverse experiences and perspectives. Now retired, I have turned my attention to trying to understand my own ancestors and how their cultural experiences and perspectives might have shaped them.
This blog is a work-in-progress in which I document my research, situate my ancestors within their social histories, and share my research with Others interested in the people and places described herein.
I acknowledge Randolph, Coos County, Oregon, is located within the traditional homelands of the Coquille Tribe. The Tribe, forcibly relocated to the Siletz Indian Reservation after 1855, lost federal recognition in 1954. Tribal members successfully achieved restoration of their federal recognition in 1989, and they thrive today as described in this brief overview.
